"I am feeling so good--I already have one week down, and the doctors are REALLY optimistic. ... I really am doing well, I have no doubt I'm going to be fine after all the chemo is over..."
Who says "I am feeling so good" after one week of chemo? Apparently I do.
Thank goodness that was over 4 years ago!
...in other news, I need something to do. I fail during summer break. My sleep is thrown off, I watch lots of TV, and I do absolutely nothing (or I attempt to clear out my email and organize everything on my computer--I try not to clutter, but my secret Monica clutter closet is my computer. I move too much to clutter anywhere else.). Seeing as I'm moving down to LA pretty soon, I probably should start being a little more productive, but oh well. If I was paid to procrastinate, I'd be the richest person ever.
Time for more time wasting...
love,
me

Say a prayer tonight...
I found out today that someone I worked with briefly in college passed away last Thursday. She was 27 and had been fighting cancer for two years. We lost touch after working together, and then oddly enough reconnected on a website called "Survivor Celebration." The last time we talked was in November, and you would just be blown about by Kristen and her positive attitude. She was pretty darn amazing. So, please say a prayer tonight for a woman I know many will miss dearly.

"No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow"
In more ways than one this new blog layout is fitting. I especially love the quote, which is applicable more than just in the spring! It's true that despite all the crazy things that happen SPRING, happy non-crazy days are sure to follow at some point.
Recently my life has been a little more crazy than usual. I emailed professors for my grad school classes to inform them of a few of the things that have happened this semester, and I almost wonder if I would believe someone if they emailed me with similar problems. I finally bit the bullet though and emailed my professors last week when I realized I was having a little bit of trouble keeping up with all my work (clearly if I can't get everything done I need to get done, this blog slips by the wayside as well). Then, tonight, I had to email them yet again, because my grandma passed away tonight. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to be feeling--in all truth, I feel pretty okay. After the past 10 years of my life (gosh it's been TEN years!), I am pretty used to craziness in my life. Also, while I occasionally feel like I've been sucker-punched in the stomach with all that has happened, for the most part I like to think I'm pretty resilient and can power through all this.
So here I am, wondering when spring will follow? Surely it has to be soon! The list of "crazies" from this year is getting longer and longer. Spring, I'm waiting! Please arrive soon!
In the meantime, I'll survive by listening to this wonderfully happy and spring-y song:

Blogger's Dilemma
So, here is my dilemma: When and how can I write on this blog? I'm actually amazed that I was able to post often last year. My guess is that part of it had to do with the lack of social life I had. (My life followed this pattern: Wake up, go to school, teach, work work work, come home from school, sleep. On occasion I had time for a phone call or two to friends...and I think it was just easier to blog.)
However, now here I am, a 2nd year teacher, and I thought I might have more time on my hands now...but alas, that is not the truth. Instead it's been nearly 3 months since I posted. Must be a combination of work+school+job hunting+life.
-Work: Working with amazing 1st graders (woops, I mean kindergarteners...)
-School: My last semester of grad school and the first I've felt I really had to work. This semester I am doing a project on introducing college to kindergarteners and proposing research about teacher collaboration. Fortunately this work is VERY rewarding and interesting to me!
-Job Hunting: Oh, yes, I've been pink slipped. Again. However, there was no magic 3-day later rescinding of the pink slips. Rather, it sounds like we will not be rehired until the summer, and as a result, I am job hunting, albeit I'm doing so reluctantly.
-Life: Yes! I have a life this year! It's still not super exciting, but it does exist. :)
So, then I find this blog sitting here...lacking any sort of life update...and I push it to the bottom of my lengthy to-do list. Perhaps I'll post again by June.
Lots of love from (finally) sunny San Jose and an exhausted but happy teacher.

Grace
Harry Kindergarten is my hero:
In other news, I fell down today while walking my dog. Thank goodness no one else was around to see me...and that the grass stain is only on my knee, not my pants (yay for wearing short pajamas out). I'm as graceful as always.
